About Us
We're more than just a food pantry; we're part of the community. For over 30 years, we've provided fresh, local food to those in need in Sonoma County. Learn about our mission and how we help.
Our Story
Established in 1991 by a diverse group of Windsor community members, Windsor Service Alliance (WSA) began its mission to combat hunger in Windsor, California. Initially sharing space with Windsor Seniors in Action, WSA quickly evolved into the cornerstone nonprofit it is today, shaped and driven by a steadfast, ever-changing roster of community Volunteers. Every week, for over 32 years, WSA Volunteers donate 100’s of hours gleaning food, sorting, bagging & boxing and delivering it to those in need. The Northern California Firestorms of 2017 required us to expand our services and WSA began serving all of Sonoma County to meet the need. With COVID, many local food pantry’s folded or condensed to smaller services quadrupling our client list by mid-2021. WSA Pantry is now one of the largest food pantry's in the North Bay.
1991
Windsor Service Alliance began the process of incorporation as a nonprofit organization. WSA was founded by a large group of community members, assisted by Barbara Brown, four Windsor Churches, several Fraternal organizations and the Windsor Grange. WSA began operations by sharing a facility with Windsor Seniors in Action on Windsor River Road. This foundational year marked the beginning of WSA's commitment to Sonoma County, culminating in receiving official non-profit status at the end of the year.
1993
In December, WSA hosted its first Christmas Food Basket program at the Windsor Grange, providing food and gifts to 360 families. This event highlighted the community's spirit and the pantry's role in bringing festive cheer to those in need. Continued to this day, WSA Pantry provides culturally specific holiday extras and and a toy giveaway to it's clients in the weeks leading up to Christmas annually.
2002
WSA Pantry took over the entire building at 8987 Windsor Road to better serve the communities food needs. The Windsor Senior in Action group moved to a new center, symbolizing growth and renewal for both entities.
